I was Born in the Northwest of England but have lived in the US since the age of 12. I currently live and work in Bellingham, Washington.
My website is just a part-time endeavor for me and I still work a regular day job, 40hrs a week, so I'm not able to create artwork that's required "yesterday," requires a quote for a bid tomorrow or has a deadline that's within a week. Please bear this in mind if you are visiting my site from the "need-it-yesterday," cut-throat world of the professional graphics biz. Just not my cup-o-soup I'm afraid - been there, don't want to do that. But thanks for checking me out anyway. Generally I can deliver cartoons in a couple of weeks but more complex projects will require more time.
Art Education: Interdisciplinary B.A. in the Technical, Graphic & Fine Arts, Western Washington University (included technical illustration, cartography, computer graphics, architectural illustration, biological illustration, product design and landscape design, as well as a range of art history, drawing and painting studies). Diploma in Graphic Arts, Western Iowa Tech (graphic arts, printing technology and photography).
Influences: My Dad (cartoonist extraordinaire in his own right and Master Model Maker); Albert Uderzo (the Asterix books) for his fantastic cartoon renderings of people, nature and architecture; Tove Jansson (the Moomintroll books) for her simple, whimsical pen and ink illustrations of creatures and landscapes; great caricaturists like Gerald Scarfe and Al Hirschfeld; the creations and humor of animators like Depatie-Freling and Aardman; Frank Frazetta for his amazingly powerful and visceral portraits (and less well-known humorous artwork); Roger Dean for his amazing airbrush "planetscapes"; Gerry Anderson (the "SuperMarionation" TV shows Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, etc.) for his futuristic technological visualizations and DaVinci, Escher, Monet, Sargent and a whole host of other fine artists for their influence on how I see nature, architecture, technology and people.
Art Experience &
projects:
I have
created a range of website art including illustrations for online
instructional courses (used by customers such as Nike, T-Mobile and
Safeco Insurance) and logos and caricatures for numerous websites.
I have also created cartoons for instructional and motivational
presentations and books and contribute cartoons regularly to public
education pamphlets. Other work has included cartoons for
T-shirts, club logos, tattoos and embroidered emblems and patches.
